History

Following the 2016 holiday season, updated park maps in early 2017 showed a new Edge of Africa area that encompassed the former Cheetah Hunt area, plus the Edge of Africa habitats and the recently renamed Serengeti Overlook, both of which previously were part of the designated Egypt area.

In the Summer of 2018, the Edge of Africa area, including Cheetah Hunt, opened one hour before published opening time on weekend dates from mid-June through the end of Summer Nights in early August, along with Wednesday, July 4. The early openings were only announced on social media, and not listed on the official park hours on the park’s website or app.
